Laos Motorbike Adventure
Offroad adventure in the north of Laos
Who we are:
Laos Motorbike Adventure is a provider of an off-road tour in the north of the beautiful Laos.
It is truly an adventure, lasting 15 days!
You will be accompanied by a Dutch guide, who has more than 20 years of experience in motorcycling. First on the road, later offroad.
Why Laos? Laos is different from most other Asian countries. It is sparsely populated and less hectic. Because of this, you feel a freedom you hardly experience elsewhere. Nature is beautiful, especially in January and February when there is little precipitation and less humidity. We make a lot of contact with the locals during our stops to eat or drink something.
Since 1991, tourists have been more welcome in this country. Back then, there were hardly any asphalt roads. Nowadays there are more, but they are often in such a bad condition that driving on them can quickly be labeled offroad. The rugged green mountains are a beautiful setting to drive through.
If you want to go for a trip to Laos, take into account the necessary preparations. You need to make sure you have the proper vaccinations and malaria is prevalent in some areas. In addition, you need to prepare for the unexpected, things sometimes go differently than planned. In case of an emergency you cannot just call a doctor or 112, and in case of a breakdown there is no ANWB. Problems have to be solved on the road by yourself. You therefore carry a large backpack in which you take everything you need on the road. In addition, you need to consider clothing to bring. Temperatures can range from as low as 10 degrees in the morning to 35 in the afternoon.
Hoe ziet een tour er uit?
You land by plane at the airport of the capital Vientiane.
You will have a day to acclimatize and then the adventure can begin.
Honda CRF250L motorcycles will be used. By Western standards a light bike, but in Laos a heavy one.
Once out of the city, things get quiet and you follow the Mekong River through the green landscape. The quieter the area, the less traffic and the better the roads. However, the asphalt roads are always full of potholes. In the morning at 08.00 the trip starts. We make sure we get to the next accommodation before dark, which in Laos is at 18.00h. This gives you the opportunity to explore the local area. There are plenty of temples, stores, restaurants, bars, stalls and moped shops to explore.
Along the way, there is plenty to see. The country is completely different from what we are used to in the West. There is also the opportunity to enjoy the Gibbon Experience, where you skim through the treetops and hills via various ziplines. Some lines are up to 500m long. This Experience takes 2 days where you stay overnight in a treehouse at 30m high.
As the route progresses, the distances between villages are longer and longer and you become more and more of a sight. Entire villages sometimes turn out to see who is coming through their village with the motorcycles. Communicating is difficult because hardly anyone speaks a word of English. This too adds to the adventure, you have to get by with hands and feet.
Laos, and with it the tour, is a country of many faces. One day you drive on roads through remote villages, while the next day you drive through the overwhelming jungle where your eyes are too short to enjoy all the beauty there is to see. In addition, you will pass through the city of Luang Prabang. This is known for its rich history with many temples and is part of Unesco World Heritage.
